Dequan Taylor is a two-way athlete with a rare combination of size and versatility for his age. At 6’0”, 200 pounds as a sophomore, he already possesses a college-ready frame, playing out of the Roanoke, Virginia area. Taylor stands out as one of the more physical and athletic players when he hits the field. And he is just getting started!
Taylor’s ability to contribute at both wide receiver and linebacker highlights his athletic range and football instincts. Offensively, he uses his size and physicality to create mismatches, while defensively, he brings downhill toughness and the ability to stop the run effectively. His presence alone can impact games at the high school level.
While he flashes clear physical advantages, the next step will be proving his ability against higher-level competition, either through camps, showcases, or matchups against stronger competition. Taylor’s a physical advantages are a clear upside, but his long-term projection will depend heavily on how he develop overall (speed, mobility, football IQ). Outside of his current competition and level of play as a sophomore, as he continues to grow and mature athletically building his confidence and leadership he can easily track by his senior as a legitimate Division-1 athlete.
At the next level Taylor projects best as a defensive prospect (OLB/Box Safety hybrid) or a big-bodied possession receiver, depending on athletic development. His frame suggests defensive upside, especially if he continues to add speed and lateral mobility.
During his freshman season, Dequan Taylor made a major slash as a high school football player, producing over 500 all-purpose yards at wide receiver while making a strong impact on defense with a pick-six and 35 tackles.

In is sophomore season his ability to dominate on both sides of the ball reflects a player performing well beyond his level, with the tools, production, and upside of a prospect who projects to make an immediate impact as he continues to develop.
In the opening game of the season, he set the tone immediately with a 130+ yard performance at wide receiver, while adding 7 tackles on defense in a team win. The performance highlighted not only his ability to produce, but also his emergence as a leader and tone-setter on both sides of the ball.
