Nicholas Cyrus Make History | City College HS Record Breaker

Nicholas Cyrus has carved out his place as one of the state’s standout passers, leaving an indelible mark on City College’s and the state’s record books with three wide receivers (Romero Ison (1375 yds), Jahmari Powell-Wonson (1058 yds), and Vernon Allen (1053 yds)) recording over 1,000 yards receiving each this season. Cyrus ended his Junior Season with 328 attempts for 4156 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in 13 games. 

Throughout the season, Cyrus has showcased his prowess as a quarterback, consistently delivering impressive performances that have solidified his position among Maryland’s top passers. His remarkable ability to read defenses, make accurate throws, and lead his team effectively has been a defining factor in City College’s success on the field.

Cyrus’s dedication to mastering his craft has been evident in every game. His precision passes, strategic decision-making and leadership under pressure have made him a linchpin of City College’s offense. Whether threading the needle between defenders or launching a perfectly placed deep ball, Cyrus’s talent has kept defenses on edge.

As the season progressed, Cyrus remained pivotal in City College’s pursuit to stay competitive. Each game, he reaffirms his status as one of Maryland’s top quarterbacks, leaving a lasting impression on fans, opponents, and college scouts alike. Despite a sluggish beginning with losses against Edgewood HS and Kent Island HS in their first two games, City rallied, pieced things together, and crafted an exhilarating air attack strategy that propelled them to an impressive 8-5 overall record.

Nicholas Cyrus’s journey as City College’s standout passer embodies the essence of high school football—a passionate pursuit of excellence, leadership, and the relentless pursuit of victory. As the season progressed and the Knights charged into the 3A Semi-Finals, all attention remained on Cyrus, eagerly anticipating whether his air attack trio could lead them to the State Championship, solidifying his place among Maryland’s top-tier passers. Ultimately, Oakdale’s defense proved formidable, grounding the Knights’ exciting air show in a 20-57 defeat.
