Here was a 6’2, long-armed defensive back competing at one of the top programs in the country, and yet, the attention wasn’t there. But that’s the reality of recruiting.
You can be a standout athlete and still be overlooked. Sometimes it’s timing. Sometimes it’s exposure. Sometimes it’s simply being missed in a crowded field of talent. The system doesn’t always reward ability; it rewards visibility and positioning. I knew early that Martinez was different. The tools, the movement, the presence, it was all there. But for whatever reason, his abilities hadn’t yet reached the audience they deserved. The truth is, his story isn’t unique.
