With the No. 2 Phoebus clinching the Peninsula District championship, defeating No. 4 Warwick 10-2, they extend their impressive winning streak to 29 games. In front of 5,000 spectators, they were gathered to witness this clash of the Titans matchup, with both teams boasting unblemished records. This season the Phoebus versus Warwick had been highly anticipated as one of the Peninsula District’s most significant games.

The defense, which has conceded just one touchdown all season, shut out the Raiders, who had been averaging over 46 points per game, limiting them to a mere 126 yards. Phoebus’ defense had only conceded a single offensive touchdown throughout the season, while the Raiders’ defense had not allowed a single point to be scored against them. The sole score permitted by Warwick came in the form of a kick return touchdown by Grassfield during the opening week of the season.

In a hard-fought battle, Phoebus emerged victorious with a 10-2 win, extending their winning streak to an impressive 29 consecutive games. Phoebus’s win for the moment helped slow Warwick’s ascension to prominence as they sought to secure their place on top of the Peninsula District. Warwick’s challenge this year also questioned another deeply cherished belief held by the Phantoms: their status as the state’s top defense, regardless of classification. The Phantoms are set to face Denbigh in their final game of the regular season, while Warwick’s regular season has ended. Both teams are expected to receive high playoff seedings as they prepare for the postseason.
