Versatility and Dominance: The Story of DeCarlos Young, A Multifaceted Athlete on the Rise
MARYLAND – Dr. Henry Wise High School running back DeCarlos Young is a formidable athlete, standing at an impressive 5-11 and weighing 220 pounds, displaying remarkable agility despite his size. He possesses a keen sense of when to run over an opponent or opt for the sideline. Although naturally inclined towards an upright gait, he demonstrates the ability to adjust his pad level effectively, minimizing the target for opposing defenders.
His exceptional body control and capacity to maintain an upright stance upon initial contact make him a daunting challenge for would-be tacklers. He often thwarts arm tackles and power through the line of scrimmage with remarkable acceleration. To fully realize his potential as a running back at the next level, Young must strive for greater consistency in maintaining a lower pad level throughout his runs.
During the 4A Maryland Playoffs, Young showcased his versatility by contributing to a dominant defense that shut out Broadneck High School in the Championship game. As a running back, he spearheaded the ground game with three touchdowns, concluding his senior season with an impressive tally of 1,395 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns.
Additionally, he showcased his prowess on special teams with two kick returns for touchdowns. On offense, Young would earn the All-County Offensive Player of the Year. Defensively, he proved to be a force to be reckoned with, amassing 91 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks.
Despite his offensive accomplishments, it’s worth noting that recruiting services like Rivals primarily list him as a linebacker prospect, highlighting his multifaceted skill set and potential impact on both sides of the ball.
