Resilience Personified: Aaron “A-Plus” Duncan’s Grit on Display in Championship Game
Aaron “A-Plus” Duncan is a towering presence on the field when he is flexed out as a tight-end and matched against many high school defensive backs. His grown man, 6’3, 215lbs stature, and lengthy physique showcase significant potential across various positions as a two-sport star who plays football and basketball. Duncan is strong, agile, and fast. His frame is solid, and his confidence and grit are noticeable. We saw this in the State Championship game against Highland Springs when he came down awkwardly on his shoulder as he adjusted to a pass throw in the endzone when the defender undercut him, causing him to come down hard on his shoulder. He would leave the game and return with a heavily wrapped shoulder, looking distressed at the time, yet he stuck it out and returned to play in the second half.
Duncan brings the agility of a wide-out coupled with the physical attributes akin to a contemporary off-ball linebacker. He boasts an extensive presence of defense as an outside linebacker, demonstrating a knack for explosive plays of the edge. Duncan’s ability to play from the line, slot, and outside as a versatile tight end creates match-up problems for the defensive coordinator, gaining valuable two-way exposure. As a dynamic playmaker of an explosive Freedom offense, he showcases exceptional agility and elusive moves in open-field situations. On defense, his strength and acceleration from the outside to set the edge, pressure the quarterback, or drop in coverage make him just as dangerous with skills that translate on both sides of the ball.
What separates Duncan from others is his physical skill set, high football IQ, and toughness. Although Duncan started his High School football career at Potomac High School, he finished his final two years at Freedom with 65 receptions, 1015 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns. Duncan ended his senior season as a back-to-back VA Class 6A State Champion. With college offers from Central Connecticut and the University Of South Florida, “A Plus” is definitely a name to remember when he goes to the collegiate level. The young man is a baller.
