GAITHERSBURG, MD, Sept 7, 2024 — In a thrilling home opener, the Quince Orchard Cougars kicked off their 2024 campaign with a resounding 54-7 victory over the South County Stallions of Lorton, Virginia. The matchup, a highly anticipated cross-border clash, marked the second meeting between the two teams, with Quince Orchard now leading the series 2-0. The Cougars, fueled by a fierce determination to make a statement, delivered in every phase of the game, leaving no doubt about their intentions for the season.

From the start, Quince Orchard’s offense came out firing on all cylinders, while their defense consistently shut down South County’s efforts. The game showcased the talents of two standout senior backs: Benny Becker and Maryland commit Iverson (rocket) Howard. At quarterback, both Travon Jackson and Maddox Goldberg delivered strong performances, each throwing multiple touchdown passes. Josiah Teasley made a big impact as well, hauling in two touchdowns to help seal the victory.

The South County’s lone touchdown this game was from their running back Seif Koroma who ended with 49 yards rushing and also picked up 30 receiving yards. Tyler Orth threw for 203 yards on 20 of 32 attempts. Trevion Campbell was his top target, picking up 112 receiving yards.

The 54-7 victory was a comprehensive display of Quince Orchard’s strength, signaling they remain a powerhouse in Maryland high school football. As they aim for another deep postseason run, this early-season win is a bold statement of intent.

The loss is a tough blow for South County, especially after their previous encounter with Quince Orchard. The Stallions will need to regroup quickly, but the challenge of facing one of the top teams in Maryland was too much on this day.

With standout performances across the board, the Cougars’ depth and talent shone brightly. Quince Orchard looks poised for another dominant season, and if this opening game is any indication, they will continue to be a team to watch in the Maryland state title race.
