Top 2025 Arkansas High School Running Backs to Watch

The 2025 Arkansas Top High School debate showcases exceptional talent, particularly among running backs. Below is an overview of some of the state’s standout backs, highlighting their performances and contributions to their respective teams.                                           

                                                                                                   

Owen McLaughlin – Southside High School                                                 As a a junior, Owen McLaughlin has been a standout running back for the Southerners during the 2024 high school football season. Standing at 5’9″ and weighing 182 pounds, McLaughlin has consistently demonstrated exceptional performance on the field. McLaughlin accumulated 2,129 rushing yards, averaging an impressive 7.7 yards per carry, and secured 27 rushing touchdowns.

McLaughlin’s outstanding performances have been pivotal in Southside’s successful season and earned him recognition as one of Arkansas’s top high school football players. His dedication and skill set make him a promising prospect for future collegiate football opportunities.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Enoch Assan – Greenbrier High School                                     Greenbrier High School has a history of producing top-tier athletes, and junior Enoch Assan is the next big name to watch. A dominant force on the field, Assan has been making waves with his impressive athleticism, high football IQ, and relentless work ethic.

Assan brings a combination of speed, strength, and skill, making him a key playmaker for the Greenbrier Panthers. Whether breaking through defenses, making clutch tackles, or delivering explosive plays, his presence is felt every time he steps on the field. In his junior season, he accumulated 2003 yards, averaging 7.82 yards a game and 22 touchdowns.

                                                                                                                    Ni’kel Lewis– Hamburg High School                                                         As a junior, Ni’kel Lewis has been a pivotal player for the Lions’ football team, showcasing remarkable talent and versatility on the field. Known for his impressive athleticism, drive, and leadership on the field, Lewis has become a standout player for the Hamburg Lions. His work ethic and dedication to his craft have made him a player to watch in the coming seasons. Lewis ends his junior year with 1944 yards rushing, 7.23 yards a game and 25 touchdowns.

                                                                                                                          Griffiin Mason – Shiloh Christian High School                                       As a junior, Mason has been a reliable asset for Shiloh Christian, consistently advancing the ball and securing crucial touchdowns. His consistent contributions were pivotal in leading the Saints to the 6A state championship game against the undefeated Greenwood Bulldogs. His junior season demonstrated remarkable performance, with 1691 yards rushing,  averaging 6.02 yards a game and 19 touchdowns.

 

                                                                                                                    Zay Stephens – Sheridan High School                                               Isaiah “Zay” Stephens, a sophomore at Sheridan High School in Arkansas, has emerged as a standout athlete in the 2024 football season. Stephens showcased exceptional versatility and performance playing as a running back, contributing significantly to the Yellowjackets’ offense.

Stephens accumulated 1,526 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns over 11 games, averaging approximately 138.7 yards per game. His consistent ground game was a cornerstone of Sheridan’s offensive strategy.
