Top 2025 Colorado High School Ball Hawks to Watch

Some of the top ball hawks in Colorado specialize in shutting down opposing receivers and making quarterbacks think twice before targeting their side of the field. These defensive backs have elite footwork, quick reaction times, and exceptional instincts that allow them to jump routes and make plays on the ball. Whether in man-to-man coverage or zone schemes, they have consistently displayed the ability to disrupt passing attacks and limit big plays. Here are some defensive backs to keep an eye on:

                                                                                                                  Robert Wittke —Denver West High School                                        As a key player for the Denver West Cowboys football team, Wittke has demonstrated commendable performance on the field. His role as a cornerback (CB) and free safety (FS) indicates his significant contributions to the team’s defense. In addition to his defensive responsibilities, Wittke has showcased versatility by playing as a wide receiver (WR) on offense. Standing at 6’0″ and weighing 160 lbs, his athleticism has been valuable to the Cowboys’ football program.

His efforts throughout the season earned him an Honorable Mention in the CHSAA/MaxPreps All-State selections, highlighting his impact and skill level.

                                                                                                                      Diego Gomez – Coal Ridge High School                                              Gamez has demonstrated remarkable ball-hawking skills, securing eight interceptions during the season. This achievement places him among the top defenders in Colorado’s Class 2A division. Gamez’s consistent performance and ability to make crucial plays have been instrumental in Coal Ridge High School’s defensive success. As he progresses into his senior year, his contributions are expected to continue elevating the team’s defensive capabilities.

                                                                                                                     

Azariah Hurtado – Monte Vista High School                                      As a junior at Monte Vista High School, Hurtado was a defensive stalwart for the Pirates’ football team during the 2024 season. Hurtado amassed 56 tackles, showcasing his reliability and consistency in halting opposing offenses. Demonstrating exceptional ball-hawking skills, he secured eight interceptions, positioning himself as a significant threat to opposing quarterbacks.

 

 

                                                                                                                   Stetson Hendren  – Highland High School                                            As a junior at Highland High School, Hendren has been a formidable presence on the defensive side of the football field during the 2024 season. As a free safety, his keen field awareness and ball-hawking abilities have significantly bolstered the Huskies’ defense.  Hendren showcased exceptional anticipation and coverage skills, leading the team with six interceptions throughout the season. This impressive tally placed him among the top defenders in Colorado’s Class 2A division.

                                                                                                         

                                                                                                              Will Tarallo – Basalt High School                                                           As one of the most dynamic players on the field, Will Tarallo from Basalt High School has been a cornerstone of the team’s defense. Known for his relentless drive, quick instincts, and ability to read plays, Tarallo has earned a reputation as one of the top defensive athletes in the region with six interceptions.

 

 

 

                                                                                                                  Jaiden Martinez  – Center High School                                               Jaiden Martinez possesses an uncanny ability to track the ball in the air, a skill that has made him a terror for quarterbacks. Whether it’s an overthrown pass or a perfectly placed throw, Martinez is always ready to pounce on the opportunity. His hands are as sharp as his instincts, allowing him to grab interceptions and turn the tide of a game, as shown by his junior year amassing seven interceptions. It’s not just about his ability to make plays; it’s his ability to make game-changing plays when his team needs it the most.

                                                                                                                     

Jeremiah Stephens – Holy Family High School                           When locking down the secondary, few players do it as effectively as Jeremiah Stephens of Holy Family High School. Known for his ability to read the quarterback’s eyes, anticipate throws, and make crucial interceptions, Stephens has earned a reputation as one of the top ball hawks in the region with six interceptions. His relentless pursuit of the ball and his knack for being in the right place at the right time make him a standout defensive back.
